Monday 31 March was Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu New Year.

One of the biggest festivals of the year. A celebration of contrasts with an eve of loud, garish parades of handmade effigies (ogoh ogoh) followed by the day of Nyepi, a day of silence, resting and lights out (no lights allowed).

A day that brings a chance to reflect, enjoy the silence and live life in the slow lane. A day that allows the air and environment to breath and be cleansed. That leaves a freshness in our surroundings and our minds.

A day that provides a calmness in contrast to the busy noise of day to day living.

Whether it be for a spiritual reasons, the wellness of yourself or your business, I say embrace Nyepi and celebrate your very own day of silence.

Give yourself and the environment around you a chance to breath. Sit back, relax, listen to all those sounds you don’t normally hear, and marvel at the fact that you can actually see the stars!

Choose a day that fits your schedule, take the opportunity to really shut out all the noise around, be quiet and recharge.

Embrace the opportunity to do absolutely nothing and I guarantee this unique Balinese tradition will leave you feeling refreshed and clearer of mind……
